New to pickleball. Learning basic rules, scoring, and shots. Can rally but inconsistent. Working on keeping the ball in play.
Understands rules and positioning. Can hit forehands, backhands, and serves with some consistency. Starting to keep score and play games.
Sustains longer rallies. Starting to control shot placement. Understands the non-volley zone (kitchen) and basic strategy. Can execute a third-shot drop sometimes.
Consistent groundstrokes with pace and control. Can dink and sustain dink rallies. Understands stacking and positioning. Developing spin on serves.
Strong all-around game. Consistent third-shot drops from anywhere. Controls pace and placement. Recognizes opponent weaknesses. Rarely makes unforced errors on basic shots.
Excellent court coverage and anticipation. Can speed up or slow down at will. Effective at resetting hard shots. Strategically places shots. Handles fast-paced exchanges.
Mastered all fundamental and specialty shots (ATP, Erne). High-level accuracy, pace, and spin. Exceptional footwork and court positioning. Very few unforced errors.
Tournament-level player. Competes at the highest levels. Complete mastery of all shots and strategies. Able to adapt to any opponent or situation.
DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is the official rating system used worldwide. It's calculated from match results, not self-assessment.
Beginner to early intermediate. Developing basic shot consistency. Learning the fundamentals of the game.
Intermediate. Improving strategy and shot control. Can sustain rallies and execute basic strategies. Most recreational players fall here.
Advanced. Strong tactical awareness and execution. Consistent pace, depth, and control. Can identify and attack weaknesses.
Elite. Mastered all shots including specialty shots. Exceptional accuracy and court positioning. Competes in tournaments.
Professional level. Top players in the world. Ben Johns is rated ~7.4, Anna Leigh Waters ~6.7.
